3 Important Things to do During the Pandemic

what to do during pandemic

We’re going on the third month or so (depending on your state) of the novel coronavirus and the many changes to the economy and our lifestyles that have been affected since. While there are a ton of different avenues one can take during this time (starting a hobby, binge watching TV shows or working on their post-quarantine bod), we wanted to share three important things you should truly consider doing  during the pandemic.

importance of sun during covid

Get some sun during quarantine.

Even if you’re back to work or making your way out and about with masks and gloves, you’re likely just popping in and out without much opportunity to lounge and soak in some sun.  For thousands of years, humans have recognized that crucial role that the sun plays in the emergence and transmission of viruses.

When people are exposed to UV light, it may cause changes inside the human body that both strengthen the immune system and block Covid-19 from replicating and causing severe illness. Vitamin D is an essential nutrient, which means the human body needs it but can’t make it.

Can you get some from some foods that contain vitamin D? Certainly, however, people have traditionally gotten most of their vitamin D from the sun: When exposed to ultraviolet light, a chemical reaction takes place in the skin that results in the production of vitamin D.

Scientifically-backed,  a recently-published study in the journal Aging Clinical and Experimental Research, researchers examined the average vitamin D levels among residents of different European countries. They found a correlation between low vitamin D levels and higher rates of Covid-19 infections and — even more so — Covid-19 deaths. Interesting, no?

So, treat yourself to some sun.  If not just for the vitamin D, but also a much needed moment away from the noise and chaos of this time.

walking with a mask on

Take a Walk.

Get back in touch with nature. Walk around outside at a healthy distance from other humans (trails, forests, etc.).  If you’re comfortable with removing your mask, do so! Breathe in the fresh air.  If you’re still wanting to don a mask, consider ours - with FDA-approved nano tech that fights viruses!

Our newly designed masks help to deter the spread of viruses and bacteria. We are based in Massachusetts, one of the last states to open, and as such we take prevention seriously and believe it is our civic duty to care for our neighbor. Wearing a mask is one of the easiest things we can do to flatten the curve and to prevent the rapid spread of the unknown.

Our masks can be worn all day as they are lightweight, breathable and reusable. We wanted to create something that is eco-friendly, socially responsible and highly functional.

Exercise and naturally forming Vitamin D… what could be better?

eating well during quarantine

Eat well.

With pandemics, buying behaviors have changed significantly and restaurants have added a ton of different options for dining in and taking out. From curbside pickup to delivery, it can be exciting and convenient to order a ton for your tastebuds.

Keep in mind that during this time, eating well can really help with more than just physical health, but even mental health.

Good nutrition is crucial for health, particularly in times when the immune system might need to fight back. Limited access to fresh foods may compromise opportunities to continue eating a healthy and varied diet. It can also potentially lead to an increased consumption of highly processed foods, which tend to be high in fats, sugars and salt. Nonetheless, even with few and limited ingredients, one can continue eating a diet that supports good health.

Do you during this time.  If you want to get in shape, go for it.  If you want to lounge and kick back before the future of post-covid sends our thriving economy and spirit back into overdrive (can’t keep us down, can you?), do it. But, as often as you can, do consider these top three focuses: sun, walking and eating well.

What have you done to honor these areas?  We’d love to hear your thoughts!
