How to Prevent Chafing While Running
It’s nearly that time of year here in Boston where runners from all over the globe come to show how hard they’ve worked to qualify for and compete in the Boston Marathon. This is probably our favorite event of the year because we get to meet women from all over the world and discuss all things women’s health related particularly, pelvic health and the many ways that shows up in training for a marathon! While our panties are made for all, marathoners have a true place in our hearts and production because of the intentional design that helps prevent chafing. Our undies move with you, comfortably while also staying put where it matters. Here, we share some of the top tips for preventing chafing that we have picked up from elite runners from all over the world!
Choose the right clothes
Quality clothing like Apele performance panties, are a great option to avoid chafing. You can wear them under your normal shorts, and the seams stay snug as the rest of the fabric stretches to mold to your movement. A longer pair of shorts can do well also. The choice of fabric is crucial too. Cotton is a bad idea because they get wet (and stay wet) when moisture hits (think sweat, discharge and other mishaps). Synthetic fabrics are better options because they have components that stop moisture. Our undies wick moisture away from you with our ultra-thin technology so you barely feel it is there. It holds up to 1 tampon’s worth of fluids or 5 millimeters over the same amount of time you would wear a tampon. Our power layer mesh does not pull bacteria because it dries quickly so your body heat evaporates what goes into the core (except blood).
Apply lubricants, gels and balms
Another remedy we’ve heard from booth exhibitors and runners to avoid chafing while running is to apply Vaseline on your thighs. Protect your thighs by keeping the friction low while running. Chafing can become a thing of the past, as there are many other gels and creams on the market that are made specifically for this. You may just find that Vaseline is already in your cabinet and easily available.
Use powder
Gels and lubricants can be replaced with powders if they are not your ideal first pick. Powders for babies work very well. There are many powders that can be great to protect your body from chafing. Do consider the ingredients in powders, as you want something that isn’t going to irritate your skin after long durations of exposure and friction.
Cover with Bandelettes
The soft synthetic microfiber bands that surround your legs are specially designed to prevent chafing. They wіll nоt slide dоwn оr cover too much ѕkіn. Thеу соvеr whаt they nееd, and thеу are ѕuреr соmfоrtаblе. They are perfect for a wаrmеr climate bесаuѕе they аrе breathable. Plus, you can get customized ones to make your running outfit that much more memorable!
Keep dry
It is recommended to keep dry in areas that have previous problems of chafing. If you wonder how to avoid chafing while running, this can help. Powders of aluminum without talc and applied in the most unfavorable areas can help keep them dry, which in turn prevents chafing. Also, it is highly recommended to сhаngе уоur wеt сlоthеѕ іmmеdіаtеlу аftеr running.
