If Your Vagina Could Talk… or Breathe

‘Psstt…. down here. It’s your vagina talking.  And barely, might I add.’

If your vagina could talk, it’d probably have plenty to say.  About hormones, partners, the “monthly” or lack thereof, and more.

And one topic for certain… would be the importance of hygiene and letting your girly parts breathe.

So, let’s go behind the scenes, or ahem, behind the seams, and find out what your “purse” really thinks of being stashed tightly behind your wardrobe of the day.

From yeast infections to toxic shock syndrome, there are plenty of things that can go awry.  From discomfort to disease, there are lots of reasons to maintain good hygiene down under.

That said, aside from your regular bathing routine, wiping front-to-back and other “unclothed” habits, what about the actual majority of the day that you are dressed? How does that affect the space and sanitation below the belt?

Well, truth is, it does have more of an impact that one might think.  Tight-fitting clothes and snug undergarments can definitely irritate an already-infected environment or even cause the leading symptoms that make way for further issue.

This doesn’t mean you have to toss your favorite pair of skinny jeans!

If your jeans are hugging all the right places, you are alright.  But if your skinnies are putting the emphasis on skin and not only hugging, but suffocating your vulva, then that is a problem.

When your clothes rub up against the vulva and cause irritation, it can lead to issues that often resemble an infection, including itchiness, redness, and irritation.

The same can be said of not just your jeans but the skivvies you’re sporting. If your thong is giving you a “mervin”  (also known as a wedgie in the front), this could be a major cause of chafing and inflammation – which again, could lead to open sores, redness, swollen and sensitive areas that breed infection.

So, what’s a girl to do? Here are a few tips for making sure that your vagina is withstanding a wardrobe that has style that doesn’t stifle:

  • Wear panties that don’t make your kitty “pant”. Wearing extremely tight underwear produces heat and causes you to sweat and smell.
  • Give it a rest when you rest. Let your V be free and consider going night-night in the nude.
  • Swap daily panty-liners for panties with built-in liners. These are great for everyday wear, without causing constant rubbing of irritating materials and bulky fabric.
  • If you do have any irritation or itching, be sure to get it checked by your OBGYN.

So, that’s that! Let the cat out of the bag every now and again.  Be sure to let her breathe and, of course, consider clothes and comfort when you do don your #ootd (outfit of the day).
